HIGHLAND GRAIN LIMITED
Farmers Co-operative and Producers of Quality Malting Barley
5 March 2008 Highland Grain/Glenmorangie Malting Barley Awards
The annual malting barley awards dinner and prizegiving, which took place in December 2007, was again kindly sponsored by Glenmorangie. Over 100 Highland Grain members, their partners and guests packed the dining room at the Carnegie Lodge Hotel in Tain on a night where both quality and price were celebrated in equal part. Quality has nearly always been an ever present but the price and Highland Grain’s marketing performance were equally celebrated this year. There was also cause to celebrate an increase in direct business with Glenmorangie with both Highland Grain Chairman, Jim Whiteford, and Glenmorangie’s Dr Bill Lumsden referring to this in their respective addresses. Jim Whiteford said that Highland Grain were very keen to support the Scotch Whisky industry and has successfully achieved long term supply agreements with targeted distillers. Given that the prospects for Scotch Whisky had improved dramatically, he said that it was very good news for Highland Grain that Glenmorangie were keen to do more business. In his speech, Dr Bill Lumsden said that he was keen to continue and to develop the arrangement to give Glenmorangie a degree of security of supply as the business grows. He said that the agreement, whereby Highland Grain supplies the barley for malting by Greencore Malt, would give Glenmorangie an excellent basis for its own production in the future.
