5 March 2008 Success for Highland Grain at the Edrington Group Barley Prizegiving

A Highland Grain member, Hector Munro of Foulis Farms, Evanton, has won first prize in the annual Edrington Group Malting Barley Competition, with a sample of Optic.  A long run of success was broken in 2006 when Highland Grain won a second prize, due to an unusually poorer quality crop in the North.  However, the quality of the crop in Highland Grain’s area has improved again in 2007 and seems to be better than average again.  Initial micromalting information suggests that the quality of the crop and the unique method of streaming the intake at Highland Grain, should produce exceptionally good spirit yields, all other things being equal.
